- My name is Giacomo Falaschi, I'm 35 years old and I live in Contea, a small village in the countryside around Florence. Even though I have been living far from home in the past because of my work, I have always kept a deep connection with the handcraft traditions I used to witness as a kid. I've been working for the national railway company ( R.F.I. Rete Ferroviaria Italiana - Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato) for 15 years now and particularly in the Research & Development Dpt since it has been created a few years ago, and this experience gave me a technical hint about how to solve some practical problems. In 2012 I started getting in touch with the FabLab community with some 3d printing projects and I finally co-funded FabLab Contea in the same year. This kind of community and connection with other FabLabs all around Italy and thw world let me improve collaboration skills but also my instinct to look up to and mix different perspectives of specific problems, in a way that the resulting mix is usually something more interesting than the starting point. In 2015 I accomplished the FabAcademy course: dealing with people from many different countries pushed me to even deeper reconnect with the roots of my digital handcraft experience, so I started looking for small commercial laboratories and small artisanal companies in the Tuscan area and this research brought me and FabLab Contea to enrich my handcrafting experience. In the meantime, I am studying at Design Faculty at the University of Florence.
