ONGOING PROJECT:
Thienna is in the CRONA project (Calorie Restriction With Optimal Nutrition and Aging). This research is based at UC San Francisco. After 75 years of animal studies, researchers have shown that reduced caloric intake can extend life and protect against the diseases of aging. In the CRONA study, researchers look at the genetic effects of caloric restriction in long-term human cohort and examine whether calorically restricted humans manifest the same age-slowing signaling seen in calorically restricted animals.
Recently, the first commercially telomere length analysis in the United States becomes available. Researchers have shown that older people have shorter telomeres. Telomere shortening is associated with aging and disease. In human blood cells, the length of telomeres ranges from 8,000 base pairs at birth to 3,000 base pairs as people age and as low as 1,500 in elderly people. Many researchers believe that telomeres may be a window into your cellular age.
Thienna’s telomere test results showed that she has the longest telomere length in her age group! The average telomere length for her age group was 5987 base pairs with a standard deviation of 537. The range was between 5295 and 7378 base pairs. Thienna’s telomere length has 7378 base pairs. - Who are you?
